Out of Habitat marine mammals report

March 30, 2023

OceanCare is pleased to be hosting the report of the second international workshop on «Out of Habitat» marine mammals on its website. «Out of Habitat» animals are those found in unusual places where their presence may cause concern for their welfare and survival. The best known cases are the walruses that have been seen around Europe in recent years, but there are many other examples from all around the world.

The workshop, which was held virtually in 2022, brought together experts with experience of trying to manage situations involving these animals in many different countries. This latest workshop is part of ongoing work by OceanCare and others to try and be better prepared to address these unusual events, which seem to be growing in number, and ensure the best outcomes for the animals and the people that they encounter.
