OceanCare has been committed to marine wildlife protection since 1989. The international marine conservation organisation based in Switzerland holds Special Consultative Status on marine issues with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. OceanCare’s work is contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
OceanCare is protecting marine life
We work against the various forms of pollution of the ocean and strive to ensure that the marine environment remains healthy and intact. We are also making sure that threatened marine animals have a future, whereby the conservation of biodiversity, individual species and also the welfare and freedom of the individual animals are important to us.
OceanCare is visionary and pioneering
More than thirty years of experience have enabled us to recognise at an early stage where problems are emerging in the ocean. We have an in-depth understanding of existing threats. We tackle them in a deliberate and resolute manner, no matter how complex or contested they may be. Our solution-oriented strategies are geared towards the long-term and we follow our goals resolutely, even under challenging conditions.
OceanCare pursues ambitious and measurable goals
We do everything in our power to ensure that the legal frameworks for the protection of the ocean and their inhabitants are created at regional, national and international level and that they are also implemented, enforced and controlled in practice. We mobilise and sensitise the general public on specific issues, promote discourse and motivate people to act in a proactive manner.
OceanCare's approach is pragmatic and our work is fact-based
Our arguments are supported by validated data from scientific research and conservation projects. We take a clear stance on the content, but cultivate dialogue, welcome others’ perspectives and are respectful towards those with differing opinions. Profound expertise and a solution-oriented approach open doors for us worldwide and ensure that our expert opinion, assessments and recommendations are respected where they have an impact.
OceanCare networks worldwide
Our organisational structure is lean, competences are clearly distributed and teamwork is our inspiration. We are approachable and always readily available to answer questions. We maximise our impact through close and trusting collaboration with partner organisations, networks, alliances and leading scientists. In this way, we utilise synergies and pool our strengths worldwide.
Loyal donors, members and charitable foundations make OceanCare’s work possible. We invest donations exclusively and cost-consciously in activities that enable us to meet our strategic goals. All our activities and the allocation of funds are published and documented transparently in our annual report.
OceanCare is politically neutral and non-denominational.
