Our Demands: Six steps to turn the tide

Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign: Poblematic search for and extraction of oil and gas in the sea

Leaving the Fossil Fuels Era Behind

The oil industry is not only a leader in the production of greenhouse gases, it also generates intense and dangerous ocean noise.

The world must ban offshore oil and gas exploration and phase out existing fossil fuel extraction.

Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign: Ships must slow down to reduce the risk of collisions with whales

Speed Reduction in Shipping

Slowing down ships is the quickest and most cost-effective way to reduce underwater noise, greenhouse gas emissions and the risk of collisions with endangered whales.

We need mandatory measures to reduce vessel speed globally.

Ending Destructive Fisheries

Destructive fishing activities such as bottom trawling, often even occur within marine protected areas. They destroy the fragile and diverse seabed, cause bycatch and often result in  marine deserts.

We must ban destructive fisheries such as bottom trawling.

Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign: The ocean is drowning in waste

Reducing Plastic Production

Plastic pollutes the sea before it is used and for a long time afterwards. It is harmful throughout its entire life cycle – from production to use and disposal.

We demand global rules to end plastic pollution, addressing the full life cycle of plastics.

Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign: Deep Sea Mining

Adopting a Moratorium on Deep-Sea Mining

The deep sea comprises around 90% of the Ocean’s volume. Deep-sea mining threatens to irreversibly destroy large parts of this largest biosphere on the planet.

We call on governments to agree on a global moratorium on deep-sea mining.

Because Our Planet Is Blue - Sujet Restoration: Protect and Restore Marine Habitats - clean version

Protect to allow the Ocean to Recover

Human activities continue to severely harm the ocean and its inhabitants. In order to allow marine ecosystems to recover, at least 30% of it must be placed under effective protection by 2030.

We need must enforce marine conservation measures to restore ecosystems damaged by human activities.
