Because Our Planet Is Blue.

A healthy Ocean is essential for life on the blue planet.

The petition “Because Our Planet Is Blue” calls on the world’s governments to use the UN Ocean Conference in June 2025 to agree upon taking effective action to tackle the most pressing threats to marine life. The Ocean needs to be protected and restored so that its inhabitants can survive and thrive.

We must stop harming our planet and start caring for it.
The time to act is now.

Because Our Planet Is Blue campaign: Poblematic search for and extraction of oil and gas in the sea

Leaving the Fossil Fuels Era Behind

The oil industry is not only a leader in the production of greenhouse gases, it also generates intense and dangerous ocean noise.

The world must ban offshore oil and gas exploration and phase out existing fossil fuel extraction.

We demand global rules to end plastic pollution, addressing the full life cycle of plastics.

Adopting a Moratorium on Deep-Sea Mining

The deep sea comprises around 90% of the Ocean’s volume. Deep-sea mining threatens to irreversibly destroy large parts of this largest biosphere on the planet.

We call on governments to agree on a global moratorium on deep-sea mining.

Protect to allow the Ocean to Recover

Human activities continue to severely harm the ocean and its inhabitants. In order to allow marine ecosystems to recover, at least 30% of it must be placed under effective protection by 2030.

We need must enforce marine conservation measures to restore ecosystems damaged by human activities.

Declaration to the World’s Governments

The world’s political leaders will discuss conditions that will impact the future of the Ocean at the UN Ocean Conference in June 2025.

With the Declaration “Because Our Planet Is Blue”, OceanCare calls on governments to adopt six concrete action steps that will, once implemented,  significantly improve the protection of marine life and strengthen the health and resilience of  the ocean.
