22.03.2012 - Switzerland's lower house voted on Tuesday, March 13th to ban the keeping of dolphins in zoo aquariums or for entertainment purposes following the deaths of eight dolphins at a Swiss theme park Connyland, Lipperswil during the past four years. more

Mission accomplished. The first German to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat
22.02.2012 - Early Afternoon local time, Janice Jakait arrived at Port St. Charles, Barbados, and put her feet on solid ground for the first time in 90days. This makes her the first German ever, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean alone in a rowing boat. Janice Jakait, 34, from Baden-Wuerttemberg, departed from Portugal on November 23rd, 2011. Her “Row for Silence” Project in cooperation with the conservation organization OceanCare intended to draw attention to the problem of underwater noise in the world’s oceans.

Arctic Species cannot be saved by Range States alone
25.11.2011 - On the last day of the 10th Conference of the 116 Parties to the Convention on Migratory Species adopted a resolution addressing the impacts of climate change on migratory species around the world. The Parties recognize that there are already well documented and significant impacts on habitats as well as migration routes that put many migratory species at risk. They have urged that action be taken for those species most susceptible to climate change. more
