Research expeditions and volunteer programmes in the Maldives

July 6, 2022

A very special experience awaits you in the Maldives: Our partner organisation, Olive Ridley Project (ORP), offers interested non-professionals and trained veterinarians the unique opportunity to actively help with the rescue, care and research of sea turtles.

Do you love sea turtles? Would you like to ensure that this globally-endangered species has a future? At the rescue centre of our partner organisation, Olive Ridley Project, at the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu Resort on Baa Atoll, you will have the opportunity to support the veterinarians in caring for their patients. During your 2-4 week assignment, you will gain a wealth of knowledge about sea turtles and make new friends – with people and reptiles.

Wanted: Sea turtle specialists

Are you a veterinarian in search of a unique adventure? At the rescue centre on Baa Atoll, ORP offers sea turtle specialists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with wild sea turtles. A prerequisite for participating in this exceptional programme is that you specialise in a subject that will add value to the rescue centre and that you share your knowledge with our interns.

Research expedition in the Maldives

ORP offers an additional opportunity for interested volunteers on Haa Alif Atoll. A three-week expedition awaits you to search for sea turtles in this, as yet little-explored area of the Maldives. You are in for a treat. During the first sea turtle expeditions, the expedition team not only spotted many turtles. Dolphins, reef sharks and rays, including some manta rays, were also sighted.
