Laura Ceyrac
Senior Ocean Noise Expert
Laura Ceyrac is a marine biologist and bioacoustician specialising in underwater noise and its impacts on marine life. With over a decade of experience, she focuses on understanding and reducing human-generated ocean noise, particularly from shipping and industrial activities. She completed her M.Sc. in cetacean ecology and genetics through joint programmes at the Universities of La Rochelle (France) and Moncton (Canada).
Laura contributes to a wide range of national and international initiatives, working at the science–policy interface to support marine ecosystem protection. Through her involvement in European and international expert groups, including as an active member of the European Commission’s TG Noise, Regional Seas Conventions and the International Maritime Organization, she contributes to improving the assessment and mitigation of underwater noise pollution.
Laura combines strong scientific expertise in acoustic modelling and passive acoustic monitoring with extensive field experience across regions worldwide, working with industry, NGOs and research institutions. This dual perspective enables her to translate complex scientific data into practical and operational solutions. As a consultant, Laura also provides expertise on ocean noise impact assessments and mitigation for Jasco Applied Sciences.
Her work is driven by a strong commitment to protecting marine biodiversity and supporting effective mitigation measures. She is particularly motivated by the role of science in informing policy and contributing to a healthier ocean soundscape.
