Frédéric Hounga
Aquatic Wildlife Research Specialist, Western Africa
Frédéric Hounga is a conservation specialist dedicated to protecting marine, aquatic, and forest ecosystems across West Africa, with a strong focus on Benin. He holds a Master’s degree in Protected Areas, Wildlife, and Rangelands Management and has extensive experience supporting national and international initiatives for the sustainable use of coastal and aquatic resources.
As part of his research, Frédéric led a major ethnozoological study on the traditional use of sharks and rays along the Beninese coastline, contributing valuable insights to marine conservation efforts. In affiliation with OceanCare, he contributes to research and community-based strategies for the protection of marine wildlife.
Grounded in close collaboration with local communities and authorities, Frédéric’s work bridges scientific research and sustainable development. He views biodiversity conservation not only as a professional mission but as a pathway to resilience and a sustainable future for coastal communities.
