The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading authority for the global environmental agenda, promoting coherent implementation of sustainable development within the United Nations (UN) system and serving as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The newly formed UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) now represents the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment, and is a body that will increase in importance in the years to come.

UNEA already enjoys the universal membership of all 193 UN Member States and the full involvement of major groups and stakeholders. With this wide reach into the legislative, financial and development arenas, UNEA provides a groundbreaking platform for leadership on global environmental policy.

OceanCare is an Accredited Major Group to the UNEP and UNEA and has a UNEP Partnership on Marine Litter.
