FAO / COFI

The Committee on Fisheries (COFI), a subsidiary body of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Council, was established in 1965.

COFI is the only global intergovernmental forum where major international fisheries and aquaculture problems and issues are examined and recommendations presented to governments, regional fishery bodies, NGOs, fishworkers, FAO and the international community. COFI has also been used as a forum for the negotiation of important marine related global agreements and instruments.

OceanCare participates in COFI, under the umbrella of the International Ocean Noise Coalition, promoting the need for socio-economic study on the impact of ocean noise pollution on fish stocks and fisheries.
