The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) works to develop the potential of the European maritime economy and to secure a safe and stable supply of seafood, sustainable fisheries, healthy seas and prosperous coastal communities.
This involves formulating, developing and implementing the Common Fisheries Policy – the cornerstone of European actions for a sustainable use of fisheries resources. The Common Fisheries Policy facilitates an integrated approach to all European maritime policies.
OceanCare has an ongoing and productive relationship with representatives of DG MARE focused on fisheries, ocean noise pollution and whale and dolphin conservation.
OceanCare has been a member of the working group for the implementation of the new Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) since 2014. The MSFD works towards European sea neighbouring states securing good marine condition of their regions before 2020.
