It has come to my attention that on August 26th the Turkish ship MS Gulser Ana sank off the southern tip of Madagascar. The large oil spill caused by this incident is now threatening a protected part of the islands coastline, famous for its rich coral reefs, rare species of tortoise and humpback whales breeding there at this time of the year. In the past weeks, humpback whales have been washing up on beaches, their blow wholes blocked by the oil.

Apparently the MS Gulser Ana was poorly maintained and had been banned from EU waters. I am strongly appalled by the fact that the Turkish Government allows a ship of such bad state to cross the worlds oceans under the Turkish flag  and I urge you to sanction the owner of the sunken ship and to take all measures necessary to prevent such drastic incidents in the future.
